About Mike
Mike Burgoyne | Founder of Mexico Real Estate Solutions
I was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and like a lot of Canadians, I never imagined I would one day be raising a family in Mexico.
Before real estate, my career was in the marble and tile industry in Edmonton, Alberta. I spent 13 years with Julian Tile, managing the Edmonton location and working with builders, designers, architects, contractors, and homeowners. It was a great chapter of my life, and it taught me a lot about people, homes, construction, design, and doing business the right way.
Mexico entered our lives through a childhood friend.
In 2006, my wife Alaina and I came to Playa del Carmen to visit my close friend Jason, who had moved here the year before with his wife and daughter. He was selling real estate and living what looked to us like a simple, comfortable, and pretty incredible life.
At the time, we were just visiting. But after starting our family in 2007, we kept coming back to the Riviera Maya each winter. Somewhere along the way, the question changed from “wouldn’t this be nice?” to “why not us?”
That was it. The seed was planted.
In 2015, after finding what felt like the right work opportunity, we made the move to Mexico with our young boys. What was supposed to be a new adventure became our life.
After nearly four years working in local real estate, I started Mexico Real Estate Solutions. The idea was never just to sell property. It was to build a company that people could trust in a market that can feel unfamiliar, especially for buyers and sellers coming from Canada, the United States, or other parts of the world.
Most of our clients begin their search from far away. Many take months, and often years, before the timing, the property, and the confidence all come together. When they finally do make the move, we are often one of the only people they know here.
That matters to me.
Helping someone buy safely and legally should be the starting point. But what happens after that is where the real relationship often begins. People need to understand communities, attorneys, immigration, banking, healthcare, schools, vehicles, contractors, property management, and all the little things that come with building a life in a new country.
That is the “Solutions” part of Mexico Real Estate Solutions.
Today, Alaina and I are still here in the Riviera Maya, raising two boys who are now somehow bigger than I am, bilingual, and learning to make their own way in the world. I like to think they have picked up something from this journey too: don’t be afraid to try something different, even when people think you might be a little crazy.
For me, MRES is personal. It is family, community, trust, and helping people navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives with a little more confidence and a lot more support.
A lot of our client relationships begin with real estate. Many of them become friendships.
